I have been working as a cabinet maker and restorer of
furniture for twenty years. I trained in woodwork with my
uncle, a master carpenter, who was an apprentice with Harrods
and steeped in the traditions of English Cabinet making.
He taught me my hand skills but more importantly taught
me that the only standard of work is the highest standard.
Before moving to Devon I was owner and managing director
of Phoenix Antique Furniture Restoration Limited in London.
I work mainly for private customers and am fortunate to
have a loyal group of private collectors whose furniture
I enjoy looking after. I also work for a number of prestigious
institutional and commercial clients and have had the pleasure
of working on furniture of the highest quality. Below is
listed just some of the institutions for whom I have worked.
St Paul's Cathedral Chapter House
Agnews of Bond Street
Country Life
Barclays Bank Head Office
SBC Warburg
St James Palace Officer's Mess
Coutts Bank Head Office
British Embassy Washington DC
I have a particular interest in all furniture of the seventeenth
and eighteenth centuries. My main love is for early oak
and walnut furniture. I also have a particular fondness
for English chairs, English Regency furniture, the Arts
and Crafts movement, boxes, clock cases, country and regional
furniture, metamorphic furniture and Dutch, Italian and
French furniture. A particular specialty is the retention
of age, colour and patination on faded walnut, rosewood
and mahogany finishes and repairs. Some of my business involves
difficult work on valuable and important pieces but I am
also happy working on more modest pieces requiring repairs.
As well as offering a full restoration and repair service
I also make furniture of my own design and can reproduce
copies of antique furniture. Recently I have completed some
lovely new pieces. These include a rosewood and ebony desk,
a pair of bookcases in Italian walnut and a large breakfront
bookcase in American walnut.
I am a member of the Furniture History Society, The Regional
Furniture Society and have a degree in History.
I am also proud to be a full accredited member of BAFRA,
the British Antique Furniture Restorer's Association. |
